The Christian Family Coalition, one of Florida's largest and most effective non-denominational, Pro-Family, Pro-Life, Human Rights organization, reported to you that Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez had reneged on the Marriage Protection Pledge he signed while campaigning for your vote. Brief Background:

- Miami Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez signed Family Research Council's Marriage Protection Pledge on March 14, 2004, while on the campaign trail.  His commitment to protect marriage was made public in pro-family voter guides during the 2004 elections.  He won the mayor's race, telling people he believed strongly in "one man, one woman" marriage.

-The Marriage Protection Pledge Mayor Alvarez signed states in part:  "The uniting of persons of the same or opposite sex in a civil union, domestic partnership, or other similar relationship shall not be valid or recognized with any legal benefits or privileges in the United States."   Four citizens witnessed then- candidate Alvarez sign the pledge.

According to the Mayor's office, since this story was reported, in only ten days, nearly one thousand pro-family citizens called or E-mailed the Mayor expressing their discontent and asking him to honor his pledge.

As a result, Alvarez has now requested a meeting with the leading pastors in Miami-Dade County.
