Women's Rights Leaders In South Florida Call on Governor Charlie Crist to Sign HB-1143!

MIAMI 05/25/2010 – Today, the Christian Family Coalition joined The Honorable State Representative Anitere Flores and women's rights leaders across Florida incuding Miami-Dade School Board Member Ana Rivas-Logan, District 7, Carla Ascencio-Savola, Councilwoman, District 12, Martha Vera, Democratic League, and Tabitha Wilcox, People United Leading the Struggle for Equality, called on Florida Governor Charlie Crist to sign HB-1143.

   

 “I believe that we should advocate for safe health care when public health and general welfare matters are concerned.  This legislation provides women with important medical information which allows them to make informed decisions.  It also protects taxpayers by prohibiting the use of taxpayer dollars to fund abortion,” stated State Representative Anitere Floresstated State Representative Anitere Flores.

-  As of Monday and Tuesday, May 17th and 18th, the tide turned and momentum began to build for Governor Charlie Crist to sign HB-1143.  From April 30th to the present, phone calls and e-mails went from 80% against HB-1143, to nearly two-thirds (63.4%) in support of HB-1143, including 1,300 e-mails from the Christian Family Coalition alone.
 
-  On Wednesday, May 19th, after a meeting with the Christian Family Coalition, the American College of Pediatricians became the first national organization to weigh-in on this matter by issuing a letter asking Governor Crist to sign HB-1143.

-  On Thursday, May 20th, the Common Sense Coalition, a multi-ethnic, multi-generational, multi-racial, bi-partisan statewide coalition of civil and human rights organizations in Florida representing more than one million voters joined their voices and sent Gov. Charlie Crist a letter urging him to SIGN HB 1143.
 
- Starting the week of Monday, May 24th, the Christian Family Coalition announced a series of four (4) high level press conferences and rallies with women's rights leaders across Florida starting in Miami-Dade on Monday, May 24th and continuing throughout the coming weeks in Broward County, Palm Beach County, Pinellas County (the Governor's home county) and culminating in Leon County (Tallahassee, Florida).
