Miami-Dade School Board Approves School Prayer Resolution
MIAMI-Today, the Christian Family Coalition, (CFC), Florida's tireless human rights and social justice organization announced that the Miami-Dade County School Board, representing the fourth largest school district in the nation, unanimously approved a resolution calling on the state legislature to restore basic fairness and religious equality to Florida's public schools.
The Christian Family Coalition, (CFC), issued the following statement:
"We strongly applaud the unanimous decision of the Miami-Dade County School Board calling on the Florida legislature to restore basic fairness and religious equality to Florida's public schools. This is clearly a non-partisan issue, as both Republicans and Democrats, as well as liberals and conservatives wholeheartedly endorsed this fair-minded resolution.
Currently, Florida law is silent on the ability of students to initiate and lead inspirational messages, which may or may not include prayers, at non-compulsory school events. The proposal under consideration by the Florida legislature, authorizes district school boards to adopt resolutions that allow prayers of invocation or benediction at secondary school events".
