Christian Family Coalition (CFC) bills up for votes today!

MIAMI-Today is a historic day for the Christian Family Coalition (CFC), Florida's premier human rights and social justice organization, as two critical bills will be heard in committee within hours of each other!

The first bill, CS/SB 98, Religious Equality  (Freedom to Pray) will be heard in the Florida House Judiciary Committee meeting which starts at 8:00 a.m. this morning.

Christian Family Coalition (CFC), successfully lobbied on behalf of this bill during our 2012 Day at the Capitol, as a direct result of our lobbying efforts, twenty-three (23) new legislators signed on to the bill!  Ten (10) new co-sponsors, and thirteen (13) new supporters, furthermore, among the ten (10) new co-sponsors, there were five (5) Democrats and five (5) Republicans!

This bill will allow children of faith to initiate and lead inspirational messages, which may or may not include prayer, at student assemblies, thus guaranteeing religious equality by protecting religious speech just like any other form of speech from discrimination.

The second bill, SB 290, relating to Women's Rights, will be heard in the Florida Senate Health Regulation Committee meeting which starts at 3:30 p.m. this afternoon.

Christian Family Coalition (CFC), also successfully lobbied on behalf of this bill during our 2012 Day at the Capitol, as a direct result of our lobbying efforts, seventeen (17) new legislators signed on to the bill!  Seven (7) new co-sponsors, and ten (10) new supporters! This bill protects unborn children from the heinous procedure of partial birth abortion, affords the same legal rights to children who survive an attempted abortion, and allows a woman seeking an  abortion, 24-hours to reflect before making a final decision.

We will let you know the final vote tally of these two bills as soon as they are available.
