Two historic victories for Religious Equality and Women's Rights in Florida!

Two historic victories for

Religious Equality and Women's Rights in Florida!

MIAMI-Today, the Christian Family Coalition (CFC), Florida's premier human rights and social justice organization announced two historic victories in the Florida legislature with the passage of the Religious Equality (Freedom to Pray) bill in the Florida House Judiciary Committee by a bipartisan vote of 11-4.

Meanwhile, on the Senate side, the Florida Senate Health Regulation Committee passed the Women's Rights bill which allows women a 24-hour waiting period to decide whether or not they want to get an abortion, as well as prohibiting the heinous procedure of partial-birth abortion and providing full legal rights to children who survive an attempted abortion in Florida.

The Christian Family Coalition (CFC) issued the following statement:

Despite the efforts of anti-religious equality legislators, the Florida House Judiciary Committee took a courageous bipartisan vote (11-4) today in support of religious equality for children of all faiths.  Christian Family Coalition (CFC) lobbied the two Democrats (Daphne Campbell and John Julien) in support of this bill during our 2012 Day at the Capitol in Tallahassee.  Discrimination against schoolchildren based on their faith, is a scourge on our state and it’s time we protect religious students in our schools and give administrators the tools they need to combat this serious problem. No one should face discrimination simply because of what they believe, this bill is a critical step to erasing the hate in our schools that has devastated far too many families.

We also applaud the Florida Senate Health Regulation Committee for approving the Women's Rights Bill which protect the basic human rights of women and children by allowing a 24-hour waiting period for women to decide whether or not they want to get an abortion and providing full legal rights to children who survive an attempted abortion in Florida among other key provisions.

Christian Family Coalition (CFC) lobbied Committee Chairman Rene Garcia and committee member Miguel Diaz de la Portilla in support of this bill during our 2012 Day at the Capitol in Tallahassee.
