Remembering 9/11...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, Tuesday, September 11, 2012

 Remembering 9/11

There are no words to describe the tragedy of Sept. 11th, 2001, amazingly, it has been eleven (11) years since that infamous day, we will never be the same, it is our generation's Pearl Harbor. Sadly, our nation watched in horror as 3,000 of our fellow citizens became the innocent victims of a horrible terrorist attack.

There are no words to describe the depth of our collective sorrow -- this tragedy ripped through every American heart.

As we mourn the loss of every life, we should also remember that our faith teaches us that hope springs eternal and that out of Evil can come Good, that out of Tragedy can come Triumph, and that out of Death can come Life.

Let us also not forget that out of this horrible tragedy, instead of dividing, we saw Americans uniting, returning to the faith of their Founding Fathers as we had never seen before.

More than anything, every American shares the dream of a nation where we can truly worship God freely and as we please. You see, faith in God isn’t what’s wrong with America, it’s what’s right with America.

Perhaps that is why that in the aftermath of September 11th, 2001, the House of Representatives thanks in large part to the leadership of Congressman Henry Brown of South Carolina, unanimously passed a resolution expressing the sense of Congress that schools may display the words “God Bless America” as an expression of support for our nation.

The resolution passed by a vote of 404-0.

As we saw, this sense of unity was so powerful, that it even reached the very heights of the United States Congress, it is hard to imagine its lessons lost on anyone.

Yet apparently it was lost on the ACLU. In the aftermath of the attack, motivated by hate of faith and fueled by the same brand of zealotry that has put America in danger, they threatened to sue Breen Elementary School in California, the school’s crime, they had the audacity to display the words, God Bless America, on the schoolhouse wall.

Last year, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg banned first responders and clergy, from the 9/11 memorial.

How tragic!

It is a difficult reminder of the challenges we still face within our own borders.

As Christians, we know all too well, the devastating effects of discrimination and anti-Christian bigotry against our community. However, our values are an integral part of America’s sacred quest for a more perfect union.

Time will pass, and we will continue to heal as a nation, but our resolve must be stronger than ever, to defend and protect at every turn, the values upon which this great nation was founded and for which so many men and women have given their lives for over two-hundred (200) years, the values of: family, faith and freedom.

Together, and through God’s grace, not only will we survive, we will thrive as a nation.

Thank you, God Bless you, and God Bless America.
