CFC Announces Miami-Dade Endorsements for 2012 November Elections!

The 2012 Elections will be one of the most important in our community’s history. That’s why the Christian Family Coalition (CFC) has invested its efforts into a comprehensive endorsement process to ensure the best fair-minded, pro-family candidates are selected. For the November For the November elections, we received 27 questionnaires and hosted 40 hours of interviews with the assistance of over 130 volunteer hours to ensure that our process is the best and fairest in South Florida. Each candidate was judged based on their support of human rights and social justice issues, viability, community support, and overall good for the community at large. Now the choice is yours, but be assured that voting for any and all of Christian Family Coalition ! (CFC), endorsed candidates is a vote for family, faith and freedom!

Florida State House Members

Jose Oliva

Florida State House, District 110

Florida State Representative Jose Oliva was first elected to the Florida House in a special election on June 28, 2011. He has been a member of the Kiwanis Club since 1997, and is currently the Director of the Cuban Liberty Council.  He is currently running for re-election and we believe he deserves another two years in office. Rep. Oliva has a 100% voting record with the Christian Family Coalition (CFC) and a recipient of our 2012 Friend of the Family Award.

Eduardo "Eddy" Gonzalez 

Florida State House, District 111

Florida State Representative Eduardo "Eddy" Gonzalez was first elected to the Florida House in 2006, and re-elected subsequently.  Rep. Gonzalez was appointed to the Legislative Committee on Intergovernmental Relation by Governor Jeb Bush, he is currentluy a member of the Board of Directors of the Florida League of Cities, as well as the Federal Action Strike Team (FAST).  Currently, he is currently running for re-election and we believe he deserves another two years in office. Rep. Gonzalez has a 100% voting record with the Christian Family Coalition (CFC) and a recipient of our 2012 Friend of the Family Award.

Jose Felix Diaz 

Florida State House, District 116

Rep. Diaz understands the unique challenges the faith community faces in Florida every single day, from the foreclosure and healthcare crisis, to issues of speech equality, as well as his respect for life and marriage as one man, one woman.  He is currently running for re-election and we believe he deserves another two years in office. Rep. Diaz has a 100% voting record with the Christian Family Coalition (CFC) and a recipient of our 2012 Friend of the Family Award. His bold and unrelenting approach to these critical matters is the kind of leadership we need in Tallahassee to keep moving our state forward, the Christian Family Coalition is proud to support Jose Felix Diaz.

Alex Diaz de la Portilla 

Florida State House, District 112

Alex Diaz de la Portilla was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1994-2000.  He was elected to the Florida Senate in 2000, and served as President Pro Tempore from 2002-2004.  He is currently running for election to the Florida House, during his prior tenure in Tallahassee, he represented our fair-minded pro-life, pro-family values with distinction.  The Christian Family Coalition (CFC) is proud to support Alex Diaz de la Portilla.

Erik Fresen

Florida State House, District 114

Florida State Representative Erik Fresen was first elected to the Florida House in 2008, and re-elected subsequently. Rep. Fresen is a Board Member of the Beacon Council, Blue Ribbon Committee on Workforce Housing, and the Children's Home Society.  Currently, he is currently running for re-election and we believe he deserves another two years in office. Rep. Fresen has a 100% voting record with the Christian Family Coalition (CFC) and a recipient of our 2012 Friend of the Family Award.

Michael Bileca 

Florida State House, District 115

Florida State Representative Michael Bileca was first elected to the Florida House in 2010 with the support of the Christian Family Coalition (CFC). Rep. Bileca is a Board Member of Hands on Miami, March of Dimes and a trustee with the Miami Chamber of Commerce. Currently, he is currently running for re-election and we believe he deserves another two years in office. Currently, he is running for re-election and we believe he deserves another two years in office. Frank Artiles  

Florida State House, District 118

Florida State Representative Frank Artiles was first elected to the Florida House in 2010 with the support of the Christian Family Coalition (CFC).  Rep. Artiles is a war veteran, a former Marine and Team Leader in Operation Iraqi Freedom.  He is currently a Board Member of the Florida Association of Public Insurance Adjusters (FAPIA), as well as the Veterans of Foreign wars, among others.  Currently, he is running for re-election and we believe he deserves another two years in office. Rep. Artiles has a 100% voting record with the Christian Family Coalition (CFC) and a recipient of our 2012 Friend of the Family Award.

Jeanette Nunez

Florida State House, District 119

Florida State Representative Jeanette Nunez was first elected to the Florida House in 2010 with the support of the Christian Family Coalition (CFC).  Rep. Nunez is a Board Member of Kristi House and a member of the Women's Healthcare Executive Network.  Currently, she is running for re-election and we believe she deserves another two years in office. Rep. Nunez has a 100% voting record with the Christian Family Coalition (CFC) and a recipient of our 2012 Friend of the Family Award.

   Manny Machado  Miami-Dade County Commission, District 11

Manny Machado, a candidate for Miami-Dade County Commission District 11, is a Miami-Dade police detective who is married with two children.  He understands the struggles our families are facing during these difficult economic times, he also shares our values of family, faith and freedom.

Ulysses Harvard, Candidate, city of Miami Gardens Council, Seat 3

Ulysses Harvard is a life-long resident of the City of Miami Gardens raising a teenage son as a single father. He works as an insurance broker and was appointed to the council in 2005. Harvard is familiar with the needs of Miami Gardens residents, as the only candidate who has actually served on the council, we believe he will do an excellent job as a voice for the people.

John E. Dubois, Candidate, Vice-Mayor, Village of Palmetto Bay

 

John Edward Dubois is a candidate for Vice-Mayor of the Village of Palmetto Bay.  John is a successful business and civic leader who spent nearly his entire career in the telecommunications industry.  More than a decade ago, John decided to make Palmetto Bay his home.  Since then, he has played an active role in various community endeavors, he has been an advocate for safe neighborhoods, parks and public places, education and the environment.  He has served on the Board of Directors of the Deering Estate Foundation for five years, as well as on the Board of Directors, Camillus Health Concerns, (CHC) and Camillus House, the largest service provider to the homeless community in Miami.

Jim Araiza,

Candidate, Village of Palmetto Bay Council, Seat 2

 

Jim Araiza is a candidate for the Vice-Mayor of the Village of Palmetto Bay Council, Seat 2.  Jim Araiza grew up in Miami-Dade county in the community now known as the Village of Palmetto Bay.  He attended Epiphany Catholic Grade School, Christopher Columbus High School, and St Thomas University, where he earned his degree in Accounting. Jim went on to earn professional licenses as a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Financial Planner.

Luigi Boria,

Candidate, Mayor, City of Doral

Luigi Boria was first elected to the city of Doral Council in 2010 with the support of the Christian Family Coalition (CFC).  He is now running for Mayor of the city of Doral.  Before his election to the Council, he served as President of West Port Association since 1996 and Fairways Home Association since 2004.  Boria is an ordained Pastor at the Alpha and Omega Church and Director of Joseph Business School, an educational institute that mentors novel entrepreneurs on how to become successful business leaders.

Elena Ortega-Tauler

 

Elena Ortega-Tauler is a candidate for Doral City Council, Seat 1. She is an attorney in private practice since 1988 and a Supreme Court of Florida Certified Circuit Court Mediator. Ortega-Tauler is a Christian woman who supports faith-based nonprofit organizations such as the Christian Family Coalition. She also serves the Christian community as board member of humanitarian organizations including Alfalit International Inc. and World Vision’s Special Chapter 2007. Elena is a mother of five and has resided in the City of Doral for 12 years with her husband and children. City of Doral Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez is also endorsing Elena Ortega-Tauler for Doral City Council, Seat 1. The Christian Family Coalition (CFC) is proud to support Elena Ortega-Tauler for Doral City Council, Seat 1.

 

Robert Van Name, Candidate, Doral City Council, Seat 3

Robert Van Name is the former Vice-Mayor for the city of Doral. Hes now running for Doral City Council, Seat 3.  Van Name served two terms on the Doral City Council from 2003-2010.  During the City of Doral’s incorporation ceremony, former Vice Mayor Van Name was introduced by a peer as “the hardest working man in Doral” in recognition of his dedicated role of community activist and man of action. He is the proud co-founder of One Doral Organization, the community-based association that was instrumental in the incorporation of Doral as a city.

Clemente Vera, Candidate, Doral City Council, Seat 2

Clemente Vera is a candidate for Doral City Council, Seat 1.  He has been a successful business owner for more than 25 years, he has also been very active in his community serving as Vice-Chair of Parks and Police 4 Kids Foundation as well as a member of the Florida Builders Association.  He has resided in the City of Doral for 10 years with his wife Enza and their three sons.

Rose Tydus,  Opa-Locka City Commissioner

 

Rose Tydus was first elected to the office of City Commissioner of the City of Opa-Locka in November 2000. She also served as Vice Mayor during that term. Tydus was re-elected in November 2004 and 2008 and currently serves as City Commissioner, with her term ending November 2012.  She is currently running for re-election.  

She has been referred to by many as “the Commissioner with the voice of reason.” Tydus’ areas of responsibility include Beautification and Parks and Recreation, where she serves as liaison to the City’s Community Relations, Recreation, and Activities Advisory Board. Commissioner Tydus is noted as Opa-locka’s first African American City Clerk (1976-1984), as well as heralding as the first African American City Clerk in Miami-Dade County.

Mary Collins,

Town of Miami Lakes Councilwoman

 

Mary Collins currently serves as a councilwoman in the Town of Miami Lakes Council.  She is currently running for re-election.  Her career as a politician has been an open book and what provides an interesting insight to her personal beliefs would be her volunteer non-political work. While living in Okinawa she listened to the young Marines passing through to Viet Nam complaint about being unable to purchase the then popular Japanese artifacts. She formed a non-profit gift shop that would be opened the varied hours the Marines were passing through. The Commandant of the Marine Corp flew to Okinawa to present her a civilian award for four years of service to the U.S. Marine Corp.

Michael Pizzi,

Mayor, Town of Miami Lakes

 

Michael Pizzi is the mayor of Miami Lakes and is running for re-election.  Pizzi has been a strong friend and ally of Miami Lakes families, both a fiscal and social conservative. We believe he deserves another term as mayor of Miami Lakes. Christian Family Coalition (CFC), is proud to endorse his re-election to another term as Mayor of Miami Lakes.

Gary Pyott

City of Aventura   Commission, Seat 5

 

 

Gary Pyott sits on the Advisory Board of St. Thomas University, The Aventura Marketing Counsel, the Florida Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Aventura Dance Academy and is co chair of the Pink Ribbon Luncheon to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Gary has also been a member of the Aventura Community Services Advisory Board for the past 6 years and was Chairman for his first 3 years as well as Chairman of the Aventura City of Excellence School Advisory Committee for the first 2 years of the schools historical opening.

Tony Lama

Miami Lakes Town Council Seat 3

Tony Lama is a Sr. Solutions Consultant for Aspect Software and is running for Miami Lakes Town Council, Seat 3.  He is a father, a husband, and neighbor, having lived in Miami Lakes for over five years.  Tony understands that government’s purpose is to protect the governed, not the governing. He is a goal oriented individual with 14 years of business experience and an innovator who will focus on delivering results for the residents of Miami Lakes.

The Honorable Miami-Dade County Court Judge, Andrea Ricker Wolfson

Miami-Dade County Court Judge Andrea Ricker Wolfson was first appointed to the bench in 2010. Since that time, she has demonstrated a judicial temperament worthy of the powerful position she holds. She is currently running for election in a nonpartisan, countywide race which means ALL voters can cast a ballot for her.  We believe she understands the critical issues facing all communities, including the faith community better than any other candidate in this race.
