Miami-Dade restores legislative invocation (opening prayer) before all County Commission meetings!
Miami-Dade Commissioner bullies Christians, slanders them as "RACIST",
"ANTI-IMMIGRANT" and "H's"!
MIAMI, FL - The Christian Family Coalition (CFC), Florida’s premiere human rights and social justice advocacy organization, praised the members of the Board of Miami-Dade County Commissioners today for their historic 8-3 vote to end discrimination by restoring Invocations or opening prayers at all County Commission and Committee meetings.
A rainbow coalition of human rights organizations representing the rich ethnic and racial diversity of our community, supported the 2012 Legislative Invocation Restoration Ordinance.
We would like to thank all the members of the Board of Miami-Dade County Commissioners for their support:
Jean Monestime, District 2 (co-sponsor), Audrey Edmonson, District 3 (co-sponsor),Bruno Barreiro, District 5, Rebeca Sosa, District 6 (co-sponsor), Xavier Suarez, District 7, Lynda Bell, District 8, (co-sponsor), Javier Souto (co-sponsor), Juan Carlos Zapata, District 11, Jose "Pepe" Diaz, District 12,(prime sponsor), and Esteban Bovo, District 13 (co-sponsor).
“Miami-Dade has entered the 21st century, this ordinance generates goodwill and respect for all, this is a victory for everyone in our community" stated Anthony Verdugo, CFC Founder and Executive Director.
However, amidst all the jubilation from the tremendous victory achieved, a sad spectacle of hate and intolerance unraveled.
Miami-Dade Commissioner Dennis Moss shocked the audience and engaged in appalling behavior by publicly abusing his authority and his official position when he slandered Christian citizens backing the widely-supported Invocation Restoration Ordinance.
According to Com. Moss, ordinance supporters, and the Christian Family Coalition (CFC) specifically, are "racist," "anti-immigrant," and "H's". His ugly, anti-Christian, slanderous tirade was not only hateful and hurtful, it was extremely disrespectful to Miami-Dade residents, fellow commissioners, and his office, as well as totally unbecoming of a public official.
"Frankly, our county deserves better from its public officials. They are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that dignifies their office not disgraces it," points out Mr. Max Price, CFC Legal Counsel.
This appalling incident notwithstanding, CFC members and friends are forever grateful to the County Commissioners who stood firm in support of Speech Equality and Religious freedom even in the face of Com. Moss' disrespectful and unbecoming slanderous tirade.
