MIAMI-Today, the Christian Family Coalition (CFC), Florida’s premiere human rights and social justice organization along with members and supporters, witnessed the return of prayer to the Miami-Dade County commission meetings after nearly a decade of silence.

Rabbi Avrohom Brashevitzky of Chabad Jewish Center of Doral, Inc. led the first prayer he spoke of God, “May God the Almighty bless you all, bless us all with peace, harmony and the ability to continuously do good and share love,” he said from the podium.

“This is truly a historic day, for the first time in almost ten years, our world-class, diverse and multicultural community celebrated the restoration of speech equality, by respecting the delivery of a solemnizing message and prayer to the Miami-Dade County Commission, and no one objected” stated Anthony Verdugo, Founder and Executive Director, Christian Family Coalition (CFC).

The chambers were packed to capacity in anticipation of this moment, yet even those commissioners who voted against the restoration of an opening prayer participated. Sally Heyman, commissioner from Aventura who voted against the 2012 Legislative Invocation Restoration Ordinance said Tuesday’s prayer shows it can be done without alienating people.
