Number of Abortions in Florida Decline Dramatically!

MIAMI-Today, the Christian Family Coalition (CFC), Florida’s premiere human rights and social justice advocacy organization issued the following statement on the eve of the 40th anniversary of the infamous Roe v. Wade decision which imposed abortion on demand by seven unelected and unaccountable U.S. Supreme Court justices.

CFC issued the following statement:

“According to the State Agency for Health Care Administration, (AHCA), the number of abortions in Florida are declining dramatically, by 19%, compared to the rest of the nation, 6%, and the downward trend continues. Since 2006, the Christian Family Coalition (CFC), has worked closely with the Florida Catholic Conference on historic pro-life legislation and our hard work is paying off. In 2008, Florida recorded 95,375 abortions. In 2011, that figure fell to 77,166. Nearly midway through 2012, only 28,023 abortions had been performed.”

Furthermore, since Jan. 1, 2011, Florida laws also stipulate:

o The parent of a minor must be notified before an abortion is provided.

o Public funding is available for abortion only in cases of life endangerment, rape or incest.

o Health plans that will be offered in the state’s health exchange that will be established under the federal health care reform law can only cover abortion in cases when the woman's life is endangered, rape or incest, unless an optional rider is purchased at an additional cost.

The number of Florida abortion clinics has also dwindled. There reportedly are now some 70 abortion providers in the state -- nearly 30 percent fewer than in 2005.

“There is absolutely no doubt now that our legislative efforts in Tallahassee are saving lives, that is why we need to continue to engage our elected officials on the critical issue of life”, stated Anthony Verdugo, Founder and Executive Director, Christian Family Coalition (CFC).

Tomorrow, the CFC will soon announce its 2013 Day at the Capitol trip to Tallahassee, Florida.
