Prominent South Florida Leaders Meet with CFC

Independent Blue Ribbon Committee on Sun Life Stadium Referendum

MIAMI-Recently, the Christian Family Coalition (CFC), Florida’s premiere human rights and social justice organization, announced the creation of an Independent Blue Ribbon Committee to seriously study and deliberate the facts regarding the Miami Dolphins request for public financing of renovations at Sun Life Stadium.  After having watched with great disappointment, as all of you did, the way in which the Marlins deal was mishandled, the CFC determined to do everything in its power to make certain that would not happen again.

Our role throughout the process was to carefully scrutinize the facts as the electorate expected both sides to present the information accurately and fairly. Now that a referendum on this issue will not take place, we would like to thank all of our committee members for their unselfish service to our community:

Marili Cancio Johnson, Chair

Rev. Keith Butler, Vice-Chair

Mary Collins, Secretary

Armando Bravo

Ricardo Corona

Maurice Ferre

Yolly Roberson

Rose Tydus

As well as the prominent South Florida leaders who met with the committee: Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver Gilbert, Norman Braman and Miami Dolphins CEO Mike Dee.

As we move forward, let us keep in mind that sooner or later Sun Life Stadium is 27 years old and will become obsolete at some point in time in the near future just as the Orange Bowl and the Miami Heat Arena. Therefore, since it has the potential of becoming a community problem, we must present a united front to address this matter together, sooner rather than later.
