Florida Governor signs CFC-supported pro-life bill
MIAMI-Today, the Christian Family Coalition, Florida's premier human rights and social justice organization appluaded Florida Governor Rick Scott for signing the CFC-supported pro-life bill, "Infants Born Alive" bill. During the 2013 legislative session, this pro-life bill was one of four CFC legislative priorities and the only pro-life bill to pass this year in Florida.
CFC identified at least 17 co-sponsors and supporters of the "Infant Born Alive" bill, as a direct result of our lobbying efforts.
The new law, which takes effect July 1, requires an attempt to resuscitate infants born alive after an attempted abortion and that they be transported to hospitals and receive emergency aid. The measure is modeled on a similar federal law enacted by other states.
CFC issued the following statement:
“Today memorializes the lost lives of abortion survivors in Florida. This is another step forward for a state that in recent years has put itself ahead of the curve when it comes to respecting innocent human life. This new law finally puts abortion survivors on a level playing field with babies born through the course of natural birth.
Such as the case reported by CBS News on March 3, 2009, on of the arrest of Belkis Gonzalez, owner of the now defunct A Gyn Diagnostic abortion mill in Hialeah, FL. In July 2006, Gonzalez allegedly cut the cord of a living abortion survivor and zipped the baby in a biohazad bag. Gonzalez then allegedly hid the baby on the clinic roof when an anonymous tipster notified police. Police eventually retrieved the baby, matching her DNA to her mother's, who police located. Belkis was being charged with practicing medicine without a license and tampering with evidence. She was tragically charged with murder."
