Doral reverses course, rejects resolution on so-called "domestic partnership" benefits!

MIAMI-The Doral City Council reversed itself Wednesday night, voting 3-2 to reject a binding resolution establishing a domestic partnership registry.

Last month, in a surprise move, Doral gave unanimous approval to a so-called "domestic partnership" benefits plan for city employees.

However, after the Christian Family Coalition (CFC) was alerted of the situation, we immediately jumped into action.  For the past month, CFC members and supporters personally lobbied, called and emailed the Doral councilmembers educating them on the issue and the hard work paid off!

Last night, Wednesday, October 8th, the Doral Council reversed itself and voted down their original approval of the so-called "domestic partnership" benefits plan for city employees.

CFC issued the following statement:

"As Florida’s voice for the Christian community, we applaud Mayor Luigi Boria along with Councilwomen Bettina Rodriguez-Aguilera and Ana-Maria Rodriguez for their pro-voter and pro-taxpayer rights stance.  In 2008, Doral voters overwhelmingly approved Florida's Constitution respecting marriage and all its benefits to be reserved for the union of one man, one woman.  The residents of Doral also do not want have their hard-earned tax dollars used to pay for so-called 'domestic partner' benefits for couples who could otherwise marry under state law, but choose not to.  Last night's vote sends a strong message to the community that the City will protect ALL of its residents by respecting both voter and taxpayer rights".

An attempt by Councilwoman Sandra Ruiz to get approval on a separate "domestic partnership" measure was postponed indefinitely.
